Wonderful blouse, best worn by Christy Turlington in the 1980s, when Gigli was bending the hell out of menswear and making it beautiful and feminine. Cotton gauze with shell buttons and exquisitely finished inside. The fronts wrap and gather, and each is further tightened by closely placed row of 5 buttons on each side seam.Buttoning in is highly annoying, tho it does stay once youre done. Of all Giglis blouses, this is my favorite and in my mind, as iconic as those big poufy collared oversize cotton or silk shirts. I can bear to let this go only because I have it in black gauze with hand-embroidered ribbon trim along the neck to side edges. It should fit close to the body, not too loose so pay attention to the measurements. Theres nowhere to move the buttons too.
The gauze has some give so you could go a few inches larger but its meant to fit. 42 around the underarms, 36 around the waist/button part. 18.5 from nape to hem. 21 across the shoulders and sleeves are overly long at 24. I have an awful lot of Gigli and a lot in larger sizes because they were for me!A version of this shirt but in pleated yellow silk and long wrapped ties instead of buttons can be found there. The sewing form measures 38-30-39, FYI.
